I am looking for any records of Josiah Jackson brn 8 Nov. 1739. He married Susanna Miller brn. 1712. I believe I am a decendant of their son Isaac Jackson, married to Ann McBride in 1880.

The Tredyffrin Easttown History Club has published a quarterly journal for many years. I don't know if they still do. The last I had heard they were available at the Paoli Library in Chester County. I know there were a number of articles about Historic Salem Village, including a listing of all the tombstones in the cemetery.

The boy scouts did a fabulous job cleaning up Salem Cemetery. There were many stones uncovered however they are unreadable.

I own the former church. I can share with you from experience that there is not obstables for you or anyone else to go into the cemetary. There appears to be some question who is responsbile for care of cemetary which is very unfortunate. If you would every like to spend some time looking around the church, please feel free to contact me. i would be happy to show you around. 484-883-6655.

Peace and Blessings,
Chris Doherty

Is this the Salem Cemetery on Yellow Springs Rd., Tredyffrin Twp.?
I was hoping to go there one day to transcribe the tombstones and take photos. Is the cemetery owned as well as the church?

Do I need permission to enter?
Did the church have burial records and if so do they still exist?
Were the records elsewhere? To a new church? Where? To Chester Co. Historical society?
Is St. John's church affiliated? Is St. John's still active?

Thanks for any help,
Alan Townsend

Depending on how they've been in business, the local funeral home can be a great resource for family records as many of them keep records of the obituaries that they file with the newspapers on behalf of their clients. In the case of my town's local undertaker, the business has been operated by three generations now and the head of the company is a confirmed history buff!

I still own the church across from the cemetery. I live in Florida but do get reports on the condition. It appears that there has been fairly regular volunteer efforts to maintain the cemetery. I have offered to pay to have it maintained; and this offer is still available. I struggle finding someone to keep it up and can't monitor it from FL. My motivation has nothing to do with the value of my house. Anyone interested in contacting me on this subject, my email is public on this site. Sincerely, Chris Doherty
